Part-time Staff Research Associate in the Center for Social & Demographic Research on Aging (15-24 hours per week)

About the Center for Social and Demographic Research on Aging

Massachusetts is on the threshold of dramatic growth in the representation of older adults in the population. The Center for Social and Demographic Research on Aging (CSDRA) was created to help municipalities, nonprofits, and other organizations plan for an increasingly older population. We conduct research, develop analytic tools and information, and consult with governmental and nongovernmental groups. We actively seek out new opportunities to extend our reach and impact at the community and organizational level. The CSDRA is located within the Gerontology Institute at UMass Boston and is directed by Professor Jan Mutchler.

Description of Duties
The CSDRA is seeking an energetic and organized individual to join its team and to play an active role in its municipal and other projects related to aging in communities, including projects relating to age-friendly and dementia-friendly communities. This individual will perform a variety of tasks in support of the Center’s work. Primary duties will include conducting research (focus groups, interviews, data analysis). Additional duties may include attending community meetings, writing reports, and developing and delivering public presentations. This individual will work collaboratively with research staff, graduate and undergraduate student employees who work in the CSDRA.

Qualifications
Required qualifications include a Master’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant work experience in which expertise conducting qualitative research was demonstrated. Excellent writing and organizational skills are required. Must be able to make decisions and communicate project objectives clearly, prioritize tasks and work in teams. Detail-orientation, positive attitude and friendly demeanor are welcomed qualities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required. Training or work experience focusing on older populations is a plus. This individual will report directly to the Director of the CSDRA and will work closely with the Center’s Research Fellow.

This is an hourly, non-benefitted position. Hours are flexible and some work may be conducted off-site. A current drivers’ license and reliable transportation to communities across the Commonwealth are required.
