Salary Range: $81,723.76 – $109,829.90

The City of Attleboro seeks a Director of Council on Aging who, under the general supervision of the Mayor, performs wide ranging and responsible professional duties requiring substantial initiative and judgement in designing service programs, managing department finances, supervising employees and in dealing with issues of the elderly.

Duties include administering, directing, and coordinating all activities of the Attleboro Council on Aging.  Must make frequent contact with senior citizens, health care providers, state and local officials, community leaders, and citizen groups serving senior citizens.  Develops plans, policies and procedures necessary for the establishment and maintenance of services for the elderly.  Seeks grant opportunities and prepares/writes grant applications; administers grants received.  Plans, develops, organizes and supervises all grant-funded programs and personnel.  Acts as the chief liaison person for the Attleboro Council on Aging when working with the Area Agency on Aging and the Department of Elder Affairs.  Provides direct counseling to senior citizens; maintains records related files and records; assists senior citizens in filing applications for assistance programs; provides current information on legislation and government programs affecting the elderly.  Supervises local Title III nutrition and SHINE programs.  Plans, edits, and coordinates monthly newsletter as well as disseminates information to seniors through various means of communication. Responsible for building maintenance.  Prepares the departmental budget, purchases all materials, and procures all contracts.

Requires a minimum of Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree, with a concentration in gerontology or social service and five years or related experience, two of which have been in a supervisory capacity.
