The Town of Belchertown is accepting applications for a Cook to perform specialized food preparation work in providing meals for elderly residents at congregate meals and for home delivered meals.

Major duties include: Serves as Head Cook; assists the supervisor as the Assistant to the Elder Nutrition Program Coordinator. Manages the nutrition program in the absence of the Coordinator, performing all of his/her duties. Sets up Dining Room for congregate meals. Prepares site made soups, sandwich filings and desserts in the absence of the Nutritional Aide. Checks and calculates the daily HDM route lists and counts meals, milk, and soup totals. Assists in packaging foods for cold and hot HDM meals. Checks and records daily food temperatures. In the absence of the Elder Nutrition Program Administrator, prepares entree, vegetable, and starch for noon meal for HDM and congregate dining. Counts and records HDM and congregate donations. Assists in serving congregate meals. Assists in cleanup of congregate meals and HDM; Assists in general cleaning and sanitizing of all kitchen equipment, surfaces, utensils, and other areas. Enters accurate computerized information daily. Set up and keeps track of HDM clients who receive hot meals; maintains a list of special dietary needs (people who have food allergies).

Minimum qualifications: High school education; associates degree desired; three – four years’ experience in the food service industry; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

Possession of a Sanitation certification, mandatory; Certified in Serve-Safe; Valid Driver’s License helpful

This is a Grade 4 position with a salary range of $21.21 – $27.08/hour.
