The Town of Bedford is searching for a part-time assistant to provide marketing, community outreach, education and volunteer coordination for the Council on Aging (COA). This position reports directly to the COA Director, works as part of the operational team and interacts with seniors daily.
Duties include, but not limited to: promotion & marketing of all COA programs and services through various means including the town website, social media sites and local cable. Oversees recruitment, intake, orientation, education and coordination of all senior & student volunteers and senior tax work-off participants. Creates volunteer newsletter and develops COA surveys for quality assurance purposes. The assistant will work at the reception desk, frequently interact with the public in person & on the phone, greet visitors, respond to requests for services and assist with daily operations.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to teach others, multi-task & take initiative with minimal supervision. Attention to detail, creativity, excellent communication & organization skills required. Ability to work with confidential information, experience with technology, competency with internet, email, social media platforms, Microsoft Office, websites & databases required. Must be a team player, self-motivated, with excellent judgment, interpersonal & customer service skills.
Work includes walking, standing & bending. Sitting at a desk for periods of time, frequent telephone & computer use is expected. Must have the ability to move/lift tables, chairs and other furniture and/or equipment on a regular basis.
Previous education and/or experience in a municipal setting and/or working with the public preferred. High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Combination of experience & education may be substituted. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, CORI & SORI check. Bilingual abilities in Mandarin or Hindi are a plus.
Starting salary for this position is $19.45 per hour and it is a 19 hour/week position. The anticipated hours for this position are Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, 11am – 4pm and Wednesday noon – 4pm. Attendance at occasional staff meetings and town trainings required. This position is not benefit eligible.
