On August 29, 2018, the MCOA Board will meet to discuss a slate of service priorities to propose to Elder Affairs for the FY19 Service Incentive Grant (SIG).  The Board negotiates with Secretary Bonner, Assistant Secretary Malone and COA Program Manager Emmet Schmarsow.   In addition, we will work over next year to develop a set of three year (FY2020 to FY2022) SIG priorities.  See an FAQ for SIG.

We seek your ideas and recommendations for what types of projects, service programs, training topics, or peer groups you want the MCOA Advisory Committee to consider and recommend to the MCOA Board for development for next year as well as for the next 3-5 years.  For a list of this past year’s SIG investments, see our FY17 Report and FY18 spending both MCOA and Local.

MCOA vision is to advance the quality of life for older adults. To do so, we collaborate with our members, funders and partners on tactics and service programs for achieving our collective goals, educate a wide array of stakeholders, and advocate for the advancement of solutions to address the needs of our members and older adults.

MCOA’s five primary focus areas are dedicated to raising the capacity of Councils on Aging to address the needs older adults so they may achieve healthy aging, economic security, and purposeful civic engagement roles (employment and volunteerism), as well as to have the capacity to reach and serve underserved populations and have the technical competence to manage and deliver aging services.   Included within these areas are strategies to provide older adults with better, more equitable access to mental health services, food and nutrition programs, transportation, affordable housing and health care services.
