Volunteering at Dennis Senior Center
We always have volunteer positions open at the Dennis Senior Center. We welcome volunteers of all ages and ability. The process to become a volunteer at the Dennis Senior Center is easy:
- Become a member of the Dennis Senior Center
It’s easy, free, and open to everyone! Fill out a member registration form at the front desk and get your sign-in key tag. - Fill out a volunteer application form
Stop byt the Senior Center and fill it out. Then call or email the Office Manager to set up a time to have your volunteer orientation. - Complete your volunteer orientation
Bring your application and a form of ID, all potential volunteers must have a CORI check.
There are many different opportunities for volunteering. Here are our current needs:
Medical Driver
Estimated Time Commitment: You make your schedule, as many or few hours as you are available
Our medical drivers provide an invaluable service in the life of hundreds of Dennis seniors. Volunteers use their own vehicle to provide transportation from the senior’s home to a medical appointment and back. You set your own schedule for when you are available to drive and can decline any rides when you are unavailable. Mileage reimbursement is available for drivers at the current federal rate.
Thrift Shop
Estimated Time Commitment: Four hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, every week
Did you know that the Dennis Senior Center has its own thrift shop? Rolling Raks is open Monday to Friday from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. We need help staffing the shop all five days, making sales, and organizing the shop.
Library
Estimated Time Commitment: You set your own schedule, at least one hour every two weeks
Our library is in constant use with books coming and going! Help us keep everything in order by organizing books, restocking returns and new donations, and curating our library. This position has very flexible hours on a schedule that you set.
Lunch Prep
Estimated Time Commitment: Two hours Wednesday or Friday, every week
Our Golden Age Program is seeking dedicated volunteers who can help out one day every week with meal prep. Help to cook, serve, and clean up lunch for up to 15 seniors – we provide all supplies. Volunteers needed Wednesday or Friday from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.
Birthday Calls
Estimated Time Commitment: Up to 30 minutes, one day a week, every week
Help us ensure that every senior in the town of Dennis gets a phone call on their birthday! Volunteer to call one day a week and wish a senior a Happy Birthday! This volunteer position can be completed at home or at the senior center – weekend call volunteers needed too!
Memorial Committee
Estimated Time Commitment: At least one hour per month, more depending on role
This committee is seeking members to help with a number of tasks, including keeping track of senior residents of Dennis who have passed away, deciding how to best use memorial donations, and sending acknowledgement cards.
Friendly Visitors
Estimated Time Commitment: One hour every week
Spend one hour a week with a senior in their home who could benefit from socialization and friendship. Help to combat loneliness in the senior population and make a new friend with someone who would love your company.
Building Care
Estimated Time Commitment: Two to four hours every week
Like being active and working with your hands? If so, this might be the volunteer opportunity for you. Duties include helping to set up tables and chairs for our various activity groups, dust mopping floors, emptying trash and other light duties as needed.
Special Events
Estimated Time Commitment: As needed, we call you to ask your availability for events
The senior center runs many special events each month and sometimes we need an extra helping hand with setting up, running, or taking down an event. If you like to be a “party planner”, this is the job for you!
Newsletter Mailing
Estimated Time Commitment: Four to eight hours, twice a month – always morning hours
Come and join this fun group of volunteers who ensure that our 24-page bi-monthly newsletter (The Cranberry Scoop) is labeled, sealed and on its way to be mailed. We provide coffee and snacks for this morning group.
